8TH GRADE GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
As a reminder to all 8th grade students and parents: We are in the last quarter of the year and graduation is right around the corner. Students must pass ALL of their classes for the year or they will not participate in the graduation ceremony and dance. Now is a critical time to actively work on raising your grades so that you can enjoy the graduation activities.
8th GRADE GRADUATION
A letter will be sent home this week to all 8th grade students concerning the June 12th graduation ceremony and dance. Ceremony and dance times, diploma pick up, and photography information will be included. Please ask your student about this letter.
6th and 7th grade parents: Cupertino Middle School will be celebrating the graduation of its Class of 2009 on Friday, June 12th at CMS. The party can only be a success with the help of parents. Since the 8th graders prefer not having their own parents watch over them, we ask for 6th and 7th grade parents to volunteer during this event to help with serving food, monitoring/running activities and patrolling the campus. Volunteers will be needed before, during and after the event, which runs from 7:15 - 10:15 that evening. If you are interested in helping, please contact Marissa Kacmarsky at
mkacmarsky@yahoo.com or sign up on PTO Manager at http://cupertinomiddle.ptomanager.com. It's a great chance to get ideas for your own student's graduation.
CMS Band News
The CMS Band Department is pleased to announce its upcoming Spring Concert tonight, Thursday, May 28. The concert is to be held at Fremont High School in the auditorium and it will begin at 6:30. The Jazz Band will kick off the program, followed by the Beginning, Sixth Grade, Intermediate then the Advanced Band. All the groups have worked very hard all year to prepare for this final concert, and would like to have many of the CMS community out to hear what they have to demonstrate.
Congratulations to the Advanced Band! They received a Unanimous Superior rating at the CMEA Band Festival held at Gunn High School on April 25. There were only 3 schools to receive this award, but more importantly, this performance was that set the bar higher for the next group of A Band members in future years. Mrs. Verissimo is very grateful for her students and for the beautiful music they made that day.
CMS PARENT SURVEY
As we near the end of the year, we find ourselves reflecting on various programs and goals that have been our focus. Parent feedback is a valuable part of the reflection process. Please take a few minutes and respond to our survey.
You can click on the live link in the online Bear Bulletin or go to our school web page. The survey will be open until Friday, May 29th. The survey is not long and the questions are intentionally NOT redundant. Thank you for your support and feedback.

All CMS LIBRARY BOOKS DUE JUNE 1
Students receive a notice every week telling them what books they have out. No fines are charged, students simply have to return all books to the book drop located in the library. If the book(s) are lost, they must be paid for. FYI: Students with missing Library books after June 1 will not be allowed to attend Great America (8th grade) or the end of year assembly (7th & 6th grade). CMS Yearbooks are withheld for students with missing books. Also, there will be no admittance to the 8th Grade Grad dance for students with missing books.
You can help us get all our CMS Library books back.
PLEASE check inside backpacks, under beds, on desk and bookshelves for our books. They are clearly marked on the inside cover with a stamp and barcode that says “Cupertino Middle School”. Our comic books also have a large, colorful sign on the front cover reminding students that the books belong to our library. Your extra effort at home always helps to get our books back by the end of school year. Any questions? Contact: Kay Gehring, Librarian E-mail: gehring_kay@cupertino.k12.ca.us.
CMS SUMMER TECH CLASS
If you are a 6th or 7th grader interested in learning how to use iMovie, Photoshop and Garageband to create Podcasts, you should attend the first CMS summer tech class in August. Mrs. Heinke will be leading a weeklong course in August on Podcasting. The cost of the 10-hour course is $150. To find out more information and register, please pick up a flyer in the office.
HOMEWORK CENTER
A reminder for parents and students: The last day for Homework Center will be today, May 28.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE GRADUATE?
Add a book to the CMS Library in their honor. A donation to the PTA
Friends of the Library is a great way to remember a special teacher or mark the graduation of your favorite student. Your donation will be used to purchase a book or video that will remain in the CMS Library collection forever. Each Friends of the Library book has a honorary bookplate added to a front page when you indicate the honoree.
We have 2 ways you can become a Friend of the Library!
First, if you like to use the Internet, we have a on-line Wish List posted on Amazon.com. This Wish List allows you to preview a number of book titles and to personally select the title that you want to donate to the CMS Library. By using the Wish List process, Amazon will automatically ship the book to CMS. Please type in a message at the prompt if you wish to honor a particular person with your donation. Also, let us know your donor name so we can send you a thank you. Go to : www.amazon.com , click on “Your Lists”, go to “Find a Wish List”, and enter the full name “Cupertino Middle School Library”. You will be directed to our Wish List.
Second, if you prefer the tried and true method, you may become a Friend of the Library by filling out the form below and sending it, along with your donation (checks made out to PTA Friends of the Library). Turn this in to the Office or the CMS Library mailbox.
